DKP = Dragon Kill Points
The MMO standard for fair loot since 1999
DKP is a point-based loot system where members earn points by attending guild events and spend those points to acquire loot. The name originated from early EverQuest guilds who awarded points for killing dragons.
After 25+ years, DKP remains popular because it solves the fundamental problem: how do you distribute limited loot fairly among many players who all want the same items?
Benefits of Using DKP
Fair Loot Distribution
Points reward attendance and contribution. Members who show up more get more loot - simple and fair.
No Favoritism
Officers can't play favorites. The system is transparent. Everyone can see point balances and spending history.
Rewards Commitment
Members who consistently attend events accumulate more points. Casual attendance means less loot priority.
Long-Term Balance
Points spent on loot don't disappear - they reset relative position. Everyone eventually gets gear.
The DKP Cycle
Members Earn Points
Officers log attendance at guild events. Each event type has a point value - boss kills, raids, siege wars, etc. Members who attend earn those points.
Points Accumulate
Over time, consistent attendees build up a point balance. This balance represents their 'buying power' for loot.
Loot Drops
When valuable loot drops, members who want it bid their DKP (auction style) or declare interest (priority style).
Winner Takes Loot
Highest bidder wins the item and their DKP is deducted. In priority systems, the person with most points gets it at a fixed cost.
Cycle Continues
The winner spent their points, so others move up in relative position. The cycle repeats, ensuring everyone eventually gets gear.
